A Lake City man wanted in connection to an attempted theft from a Carroll retailer made his initial appearance Friday in Carroll County District Court. Twenty-nine-year-old Dylan Lee Pedersen faces one count of third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor. The warrant stemmed from an incident on Aug. 29 at the Carroll Walmart. Authorities say Pedersen attempted to leave the store with a cart filled with merchandise valued at over $800. When confronted by staff, he allegedly abandoned the cart in the parking lot and drove away from the scene. Law enforcement later determined that Pedersen was barred from entering the store due to prior shoplifting incidents, and the driver of the vehicle he left in was driven by the protected party of a no-contact order. As a result, he is also charged with trespassing and violation of a protective order, both simple misdemeanors. Pedersen was released on his own recognizance following his appearance before the magistrate. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 16.
