The Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) announced Friday that recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) should see a modest increase in benefits starting this month. Nearly all SNAP beneficiaries will see an approximately 27-percent bump in monthly allocations. However, the increase occurs at the same time a 15-percent increase for pandemic-relief is expiring. Adult, Child, and Family Services Division Administrator, Janee Harvey, says, “The net result of the changes is that most Iowa families will see a $12 to $16 increase per person each month. These changes are permanent and aren’t tied to pandemic programs.” SNAP recipients will not need to take any action for the increase to occur, as they should happen automatically. Benefits will be deposited to EBT cards as usual in October.
