Ar-We-Va’s week one challenge came in the form of the newly 8-man team St. Edmond where the Rockets were closely defeated in overtime Friday.
St. Edmond and Ar-We-Va in the first quarter were neck and neck, with the Gaels holding the close 14-6 lead. Cooper Kock found Will Ragaller on a 40 yard pass to give the Rockets their lone score in that first quarter. Ragaller had a busy night on offense as he recorded 214 rushing and passing yards, along with recording 10 solo tackles. Both teams kept the pressure on in the second quarter as they both scored 20 points, but St. Edmond held the lead at 34-26 at halftime. Ragaller took it to the house as he scored a kickoff touchdown in the second quarter.
Ar-We-Va started to climb back in the contest, out scoring the Gael 16-14 in the third quarter, but still trailed 48-42. St. Edmond’s lead in the fourth quarter was cut down by a single touchdown at 56-50, and the Rockets took advantage of the opportunity. With 46 seconds left in regulation, Regaller scored a rushing touchdown to tie the game up at 56-56. In overtime, St. Edmond’s drive got them down to the red zone. St. Edmond fumbled the ball around the 20 yard line, getting them out of field goal range. A pass attempted in the end zone was broken up by Ar-We-Va’s defense, but St. Edmond was able to complete the touchdown pass in the next play to end the contest 62-56.
Ragaller on the night recorded 214 passing and rushing yards with 7 touchdowns, which includes a kickoff touchdown, and 10 solo tackles. Jonathan Dose defensively recorded 6.5 total tackles and a tackle for loss. Ar-We-Va falls to 0-1 on the season at St. Edmond improves to 1-0.
The Rockets are in action next Friday when they welcome Kingsley-Pierson to Westside.
