Fort Dodge Man Charged In Carroll County District Court With Three Controlled Substance Violations Scheduled For Trial In September

A Fort Dodge man charged in Carroll County District Court with three counts of drug trafficking has been scheduled for trial in September. Forty-year-old Shawn Matthew Newman filed his written not guilty pleas Thursday to possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a class B felony, possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, a class C felony, and possession of a marijuana with intent to deliver, a class D felony. Each count carries a habitual offender enhancement. The charges stem from a March 7 traffic stop by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office on Highway 30 near Glidden. During the stop, authorities located a large sum of cash, individually labeled baggies, various narcotics, a scale and unused syringes. Newman’s jury trial is slated to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 14 with a pretrial conference on Sept. 7. As of Friday, Newman remained in custody at the Carroll County jail on a $40,000 bond.
