Woman Charged With January Burglary In Carroll Sentenced Friday

An Alta woman charged with burglary in Carroll County District Court was sentenced Friday after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors. According to court records, 43-year-old Kristal Lynn Miller, formerly of Carroll, was arrested by the Carroll Police Department on Jan. 23 following a reported home invasion the previous evening. Miller was originally charged with second-degree burglary, a class C felony, for allegedly entering a home in the 200 block of E. 10th Street and assaulting two adult occupants, causing them to fear for their and their children’s safety. As part of her plea agreement, Miller pled guilty to a lesser class D felony charge, third-degree burglary, and was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay over $1,200 in fines, surcharges and court costs. However, the sentence and fines were suspended, and Miller was instead placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for a term not to exceed five years.
