ESC Softball’s Annual Pink Out And Sac County Relay For Life Pair Up Again Wednesday

The softball diamond in Wall Lake is going pink tomorrow (Wednesday) in a joint event with East Sac County (ESC) schools and the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Sac County Relay for Life. ACS Community Manager, Dana Kaufmann, says they were fortunate to be able to host the annual Pink Out games last year but were forced to scale back many of the activities due to COVID. With the pandemic waning, Kaufmann expects the Relay and softball games to be much closer to normal compared to 2020.

ESC is hosting Manson Northwest Webster with the junior varsity reserve game starting at 4 p.m., junior varsity at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity game to follow. Fans and players will be dressed in pink to honor and remember breast cancer survivors and patients. Kaufmann says the Relay activities are scheduled to begin prior to the start of the JV game.

She adds luminarias will also be placed around the diamond in traditional Relay fashion. According to Kaufmann, much of the country’s attention over the last 15 months has been on the coronavirus. However, she says it is important to remember cancer is just as common as it was before the pandemic.

Money raised during the Pink Out will go towards the Sac County Relay for Life’s final fundraising total, which is used to finance cancer research, provide patient support programs and encourage behaviors that reduce the risk of a cancer diagnosis. Teams, businesses or individuals interested in supporting the Relay can contact Kaufmann at 712-330-3368, or for more information, visit www.cancer.org.
