This coming Father’s Day weekend, an annual tradition will not only celebrate a 40th anniversary, but will mark the end of an era for a slow pitch softball tournament in Carroll. Bob Fasbender has been involved in the organizing of The Budweiser “Bud” Open since the very beginning.
Fasbender says at one time, this was the biggest 16-inch softball tournament in the state.
Fasbender will even be stepping up to the plate and taking a pitch sometime over the course of the three-day, double-elimination tournament. There is room for 24 teams to take to the fields at the Men’s softball Complex in Carroll June 18 through June 20. The team entry fee is $225 with the registration deadline this Friday, June 11. More details on play and registration can be found below. Prizes are awarded for the top six finishers, ranging from $125 to $1,000. There are also Budweiser t-shirts and more special prizes to be awarded at the conclusion of the tournament.
Spectators are welcome with an admission price of $5 for adults, $3 for high school students with children 12 and under getting in free of charge. Fasbender says they are also still in need of volunteers for this year.
If there are three things that the Bud Open is known for providing, it is a lot of fun, a lot of laughs and a whole lot of cold beverages. Proceeds from this year’s event will be used to support improvements at the Carroll softball fields and for high school scholarships.
