Kuemper went 1-1 on the day losing a tight game to Remsen St Mary’s in the semifinals late and then pulling away early to beat Heelan in the 3rd place game after an over 30 minute delay waiting for a new umpire to be available. Kuemper grabbed a late lead against the Hawks but couldn’t hold the lead and lost in the final inning of the timed game. Hailey Ostrander singled in the 3rd with the Knights down 2-0. Jordan Schwabe walked and both scored when Kenzie Schon singled. Remsen St Mary’s had scored twice in the 2nd and then grabbed the lead back with a run in the 4th. Brianna Lux started a 2-out rally with a single in the 5th. Lux scored the tying run when Kenzie Schon laced a triple to left-center field. Schon was stranded at 3rd and the game headed to the 6th tied at 3. The Hawks got a single to start the 6th and then a walk helped set the stage. A shot in the gap in left-center scored a run and the Hawks were back up 1. The Knights were unable to get a runner on the base in the bottom half of the 6th and the 90 minute time limit was up and the Hawks won 4-3.

Hailey Ostrander and Kenzie Schon each had a pair of hits in the loss. Schon had 3 RBI. Chloe Venteicher was the hard luck loser in the circle pitching well going 5+ innings, giving up just 6 hits and 2 earned runs. She struck out 3.

Kuemper wasted no time in the 3rd place game against Heelan. Jordan Schwabe was hit by a pitch in the 1st inning and scored on a Brianna Lux triple. Lux made it 2-0 on an RBI groundout by Kenzie Schon. Heelan looked like they would respond quickly with a leadoff triple in the bottom oft the 1st but were held to 1 run. Kuemper blew the game open with 6-runs in the 3rd. Hailey Ostrander led off the 3rd with a deep shot to left field for an inside the park home run. Her energy lifted the Knights who got a single from Schwabe, Schon reached on an error, Kenadee Loew singled driving in a run, Kamryn Venner reached on a fielders choice back up the middle, Kaci Peter had an RBI single and Chloe Venteicher made it 8-1

Heelan added a run in the 5th but the game ended after the 6th inning with the 90 minute time limit.

Kuemper put together 7 hits including the inside the park home run from Hailey Ostrander. Kenadee Loew led them with 2 hits and Kyndal Hilgenberg doubled. Loew also had a game high 2 RBI. Kamryn Venner earned the win going 5 1/3 innings, allowing 8 hits but only 2 runs. She struck out 7.

The Knights will host Red Oak for a varsity double header at the Little League Complex on Monday.

Carroll had a perfect day going 3-0 with a convincing late win in the opener against Red Oak and tight wins against Harlan and Creston. Carroll had 13 hits against Red Oak. They grabbed the early lead at 2-1 after the 1st and the game remained tight until the offense got rolling in the 5th inning. The Tigers scored 6 times in the 5th to end the game.

Camryn Schable was outstanding in the circle giving up just 4 hits while striking out 10. She picked up the win and helped herself at the plate. The sophomore had 2 of the teams 13 hits with both of them doubles. Parker Adams led the team with 3 hits and scored twice. Josie Ayala, Chloe Gallegos, Averi Burke and Schable all had 2 hits. Ayala doubled, Burke tripled and Makalie Kofron also doubled and drove in 2.

Carroll managed their 3 hits  well in the win against Harlan scoring 3 times. Brielle Hinners tripled driving in a run and Josie Ayala doubled and scored. Parker Adams had their other hit and scored. A 2-run bottom of the 5th clinched the win for Carroll. Alyssa Brant and Camryn Schable combined in the circle with Brant collecting the win going 4 innings and Schable throwing the other 3. They combined to allow 10 hits but only 1 run.

The Creston game came down to the last moments. Carroll led 6-5 in the 6th which would be the final inning due to 90 minute time limit unless Creston tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. The Panthers had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. The Tigers induced a fly ball to right field that was caught by Shay Sinnard for the 2nd out. Carroll walked a batter to load the bases, giving them a force out on all bases. Creston hit a grounder into the 3rd-shortstop gap that Makalei Kofron fielded and threw to Josie Ayala at 3rd. Ayala was able to apply the tag before the runner crossed the plate and Carroll held on for the win.

Carroll had 11 hits against the Panthers with Chloe Gallegos, Parker Adams and Averi Burke all had 2 hits. Gallegos added a pair of RBI. Camryn Schable tripled as did Burke. Josie Ayala doubled and drove in a run. Camryn Schable and Alyssa Brant combined again for the win. Brant earned the win going 4 innings allowing 5 runs on 5 hits while Schable gave up 4 hits and no runs.

Carroll hosts Boone on Monday.

Coon Rapids Bayard dropped their opener but rebounded and won their 2nd game to go 1-1 on the day. The loss to West Central Valley came with a slow start for the Crusaders. West Central Valley scored 3 runs in both the 1st and 2nd inning, before adding 6-runs in the 3rd. Coon Rapids Bayard tried to battle back but ran out of time.

They picked up 11 hits with Cassidy Baker garnering 3 of those, Breely Clayburg doubled and had 2 hits and Bridget Shirbroun added a pair of hits.

The Crusaders bats heated up as the West Central Valley played out and they stayed hot against Des Moines North. The Crusaders scored 5 times in the 1st inning and never looked back. They scored runs in the 3rd and 4th inning before ending the game with a 6-run 5th inning. Coon Rapids Bayard picked up 10 hits with Lacie Davis, Emma Hart and Miranda Garcia all having 2 hits. Garcia had 3 RBI along with scoring 3 runs. Laci Davis doubled. Lydia Hofbauer, Breely Clayburg and Cassidy Baker all scored 3 times. Emma Hart picked up the win going all 6 innings and allowing 1 earned run.

The Crusaders host Ar-We-Va on Monday.
