Coon Rapids Man Accused Of Threatening Police Officer With Sword Remains In Custody On $50,000 Bond

A Coon Rapids man arrested Monday after allegedly threatening to cut off a police officer’s head remains in custody at the Carroll County jail. According to Carroll County District Court records, the Coon Rapids Police Department was dispatched to the 200 block of 1st Avenue at approximately 2:50 p.m. on May 31 to a report of an individual wielding a sword. Authorities say the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Ryan Patrick McAlister, was standing in the street waving the weapon. McAlister is accused of making threatening comments to an officer and a witness during the incident. Law enforcement was able to take McAlister into custody and transported him to the Carroll County jail, where he was charged with going armed with intent, a class D felony, carrying weapons and first-degree harassment, aggravated misdemeanors, and disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor. As of Thursday morning, McAlister remained in custody on a $50,000 surety bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday, June 10.
