Long-time member of the Carroll Volunteer Fire Department who most recently served as Assistant Fire Chief, Bob Shields, was recently recognized by the Carroll City Council for his years of service as he retires from his post. Chief, Greg Schreck, says his wife, Kim, is as much a part of the department as Bob and should be commended as well at this special time in their lives.

In those 26 years, Schreck says Shields has worked his way up through the ranks in the department and earned the respect of every firefighter they have had. These men and women perform heroic acts nearly every day, running straight into the face of danger on so many occasions. Schreck points to one instance in particular in 1998.

Schreck adds Shields has been a role model for the firefighters on their team and the council thanked him for his many years of selfless service.
