Children in Sac City should be on their best behavior this summer as local law enforcement is keeping their eye on them. But in this instance, they are looking to recognize them for their good deeds. The Sac City Police Department has partnered with the Sac City Library in the You’ve Been Booked program. This is being organized by Children’s Librarian, Jessica Pierce, in her first year in this role.
The collaborative effort was initiated when the Director of the library, Kim Nelson, read about the idea through a grant opportunity. Pierce says even though they didn’t receive a grant, local donations made it possible for them to implement the program and staff members at the library put together the first round of packages to kick off the initiative last week.
Pierce says officers will be on the lookout for many different types of good deeds.
Pierce says they plan on continuing with the You’ve Been Booked program throughout the summer and the library staff will evaluate it afterward to determine if it will be brought back in the future. In other programming, the Sac City Library will continue with virtual story time throughout the summer, will have grab-and-go bags that contain a craft, a snack and a book for kids in two different age groups and they are developing some outdoor programming. The Sac City Library is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. but will be opening on Fridays for those same hours in May. They ask that visitors wear a mask and make visits to the library as quick as possible. More information can be found on their website and Facebook page, links to which are included below.
