U.S. Senator, Joni Ernst, is calling for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to open an investigation into President Biden’s nominee for Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Dr. Colin Kahl. Ernst, who serves as the Republican leader of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee, sent a copy of the request to Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer, asking he not move forward with Kahl’s nomination until the FBI returns its findings. Kahl is facing increased scrutiny for allegedly disclosing classified information and attempting to control unclassified information after leaving government employment. In her letter to Schumer and FBI Director, Christopher Wray, Ernst writes, “Kahl’s growing record of apparent mishandling of classified information and controlled unclassified information and his evasive response regarding this issue fall short of the standard required for holding one of our nation’s top national security positions. By apparently soliciting or otherwise receiving classified information and controlled unclassified information from U.S. government officials serving in national security roles and repeatedly posting such information on social media websites, Kahl demonstrated disregard for security protocols that are designed to protect our national security interests.” A copy of the full letter can be found included below.
