Carroll Man Sentenced To Probation After Pleading Guilty To Lascivious Acts With A Child

A Carroll man originally charged with third-degree sexual abuse, a class C felony, has been sentenced to probation on a lesser charge after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors. According to Carroll County District Court records, 20-year-old Michael John William Lyons was arrested in June of 2020 following a Carroll Police Department investigation into allegations he had performed sex acts with a 13-year-old female victim between April 15 and May 31 of last year. Lyons reached an agreement with prosecutors in October 2020 and submitted his guilty plea to one count of lascivious acts with a child, a class C felony, to the court at a Jan. 25 hearing. Lyons sentencing hearing was held April 2. In exchange for his plea, a 10-year prison sentence and over $1,000 in fines were suspended, and Lyons was placed on probation for five years to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. He will also be required to register with the Iowa Sex Offender Registry.
