A special donation drive is being planned to “Stock the Shelves” at WESCO Industries’ transitional living quarters in Vail. Many of the residents at the Stepping Stones Center arrive with only the clothes on their backs. This non-profit entity is asking the general public for their support through the donation of essential household goods for every area of the home. This includes clothing, cookware, small appliances, toiletries and personal care items. “It’s important that those in our Stepping Stones program can develop the skills necessary to attain their highest level of independence and be reintegrated in our communities,” says WESCO Marketing Manager, Sara Woerdehoff. “Donations of essential household items will be of great help in getting our transitional living residents back out there.” The center operates under a partnership with St. Anne’s Catholic Church in the Rolling Hills Mental Health Region, servicing Carroll, Calhoun, Crawford, Sac, Buena Vista, Cherokee, Ida and Woodbury Counties. They provide short-term housing for those coming out of placement or hospitalization. “Our goal for the individuals is to lessen the barriers for when they move out into the community independently by providing them with the basic needs in their newly established home,” explains Stepping Stones manager, Jessica Stangl. “This winter, with the success of social media, we had a wonderful family from the community donate furnishings to an individual that provided a second chance in a new home.” To make a donation to the “Stock the Shelves” drive, contact Woerdehoff through the methods outlined below. They ask that donors NOT send mattresses, box televisions, large appliances, perishable foods or opened hygiene products.
