A Carroll man who was found guilty of second-degree burglary has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison. According to Carroll County District Court records, the order against 30-year-old Brice Edward Shrimpton was handed down Monday during his sentencing hearing. A jury found Shrimpton guilty of the class C felony following his trial in February. Over $1,400 in fines and surcharges were suspended and a hearing has been scheduled for April 5 to determine restitution payments. Shrimpton’s conviction stems from a Dec. 15 arrest by the Carroll Police Department. Authorities say he kicked down the door of a residence in the 800 block of North Court Street in violation of a protective order and proceeded to threaten the occupants and break several windows. He has been remanded into the custody of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office for transport to the Iowa Medical Classification Center in Oakdale. Additional charges are pending against Shrimpton in Carroll County District Court. He faces two counts of possession of a weapon in a correction institution, a class C felony, for allegedly crafting a shiv and plexiglass knife while in custody at the Carroll County jail prior to his sentencing. His arraignment hearing for those charges is also scheduled for April 5.
