Formal charges were filed last week in Carroll County District Court against a Texas man who was found in possession of narcotics and a loaded handgun. According to court records, 57-year-old Charles Lee Richardson of Bonham, Texas was arrested March 3 for alleged controlled substance violations, a class C felony, but was indicted on two lesser counts Wednesday: possession of a dangerous weapon while intoxicated and first-offense possession of methamphetamine, both serious misdemeanors. Authorities say Richardson was found near the intersection of 18th Street and U.S. Highway 71. A probable cause search located two packages containing methamphetamine, a 9mm handgun and spare magazines. As of Friday, Richardson remains in custody at the Carroll County jail. His arraignment hearing is scheduled for Thursday, March 25.
