Swan Lake Shelter House Construction And Fundraising Near Completion, But New Features Now Planned

Carroll County Conservation has been busy with upgrades at Swan Lake, with the new East Side Shelter House at nearly two-thirds completed. Conservation board member and President of the Carroll County Conservation Foundation, Kenny Snyder, says they really wanted to create a space that has many different uses throughout the course of the entire year.

The $400,000 project is slated to open May 1 and reservations for rentals, at $150 per day, can be done now. Snyder says they actually already have around 40 reservations on the books. This, he says, is not your ordinary shelter house.

In addition, trail users will have access to restrooms on the back side of the shelter house as the old ones nearby will be taken out this spring. The majority of the project has already been funded, but the board and foundation are still looking for support in covering the remainder.

Snyder explains how donations can be made.

There are also many in-kind donations for the project, such as the Janning family supplying the granite countertops and the epoxy flooring in the bathrooms. Once the final $16,000 is raised, Snyder says the team will turn their attention to the outdoors.

They have already received $10,000 toward that equipment, $5,000 each from the Community Foundation of Carroll and First American Home Warranty. Contact details to get more information, make a reservation or a donation to the shelter house and/or playground can be found below.
