In addition to her visit to Glidden on Thursday morning, U.S. Senator, Joni Ernst, made several other regional stops as part of her 99-county annual tour. Early in the afternoon, she took a tour of Quality Food Processors (QFP) in Denison and visited with their leadership and some of the 240 employees. Ernst was able to sample the bacon products and view the production and packaging process. Senator Ernst says her takeaway from this visit is how vital these types of facilities are as they are producing the products used in our homes every day. “It starts somewhere, and this is where it starts—just knowing and understanding our meat production and the lifecycle of our hogs, coming from our pork producers. Then how it is brought into this facility, processed and packaged into bacon,” Ernst says. “It’s good to know how it is processed and some of the challenges they (QFP) faced during COVID as well.” QFP General Manager, Eric Kohler, says it was an honor to have Senator Ernst visit their facility and to be able to share not only their challenges, but their accomplishments as well. At the end of 2020, QFP received the honor of being named Sigma’s Value Partner of the Year.
