Formal Charges Filed Against Arcadia Man Accused Of Drug Trafficking

An Arcadia man was formally charged in Carroll County District Court last week for alleged drug trafficking. According to court records, 34-year-old Matthew Allan McNelly faces one count of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, a class D felony. The Carroll Police Department requested an arrest warrant for McNelly after materials seized during an Aug. 15 traffic stop near the intersection of U.S. Highways 30 and 71 tested positive for narcotics. Authorities say in an affidavit the drugs were found in an ashtray and two baggies in the backseat containing a combined 52.9 grams of marijuana. McNelly’s arraignment hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 25. A class D felony in Iowa carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
