The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education is scheduled to convene next week for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting. The first item of business on Monday’s agenda is school improvement reports. Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, says part of their discussion will be on the district’s before and after school program, TigerZone.
Currently, enrollment in TigerZone is approximately 20 students, but the number of participating kids has fluctuated throughout the semester. Last month, school officials reviewed assessment data to identify achievement gaps caused by COVID-related educational disruptions and started developing a plan to address them. However, the middle school had not completed all their assessments by the time the board met in January, and they will be reviewing that now available data on Monday. Berlau says staff are continuing their efforts to help students who may have fallen behind due to the pandemic.
The board will also hear reports from administrators, including Berlau and the building principals. Updates to the school improvement advisory committee, which reviews student achievement, course offerings and other similar topics, are on the agenda as well. Generally, this is handled during the fall semester but was put on hold with the focus on educating students during the pandemic. The board will continue discussions on their district staffing plan for next year and consider the second reading of 15 board policy updates. Berlau says their last major item of business is an agreement with FRK Architects and Engineers.
The Monday, Feb. 15 meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Adams Elementary School board conference room.
