The Glidden Ralston Wildcats and Paton Churdan Rockets put on a grit-filled match up where the Wildcats were victorious Friday night. In the first quarter, both teams struggled to make consistent baskets. Both teams would be tied at three and five points, the only time the Rockets would be tied with the Wildcats in this contest. The Wildcats would push on and end the first quarter with the 14-7 lead. The second half would be a huge jump for the Wildcats as they would start off the quarter with a 12-0 run before the Rockets were able to lay up a shot thanks to Justin Stream. Carter Scott was a huge influence in that quarter, playing aggressively on defense and forcing a lot of turnovers.
With some grit and improved defense, the Paton Churdan Rockets would take over the third quarter with a much improved defense. They would start to steal the ball often and caused a plethora of turnovers, just like the Wildcats did a quarter ago. The Rockets scored much more consistently in this quarter, recording a game best 13 points in the third. They had kept the Wildcats at four points for much of that quarter before they were able to end that quarter with nine points. The big defensive unit for Paton Churdan was Bradyn Smith, who was consistently causing big turnovers for the Rockets and being a force to notice. In the final quarter of play, the Wildcats were able to break away from their scoring troubles from the third quarter and once again took control of the ball game. The big issue for the Rockets in this contest were free throws. They were brought to the charity stripe a total of four times, and were unable to make any free throws until the final four seconds of the game. The Wildcats first half performance was more than enough to secure themselves the victory with a final score of 52-33.
