Carroll County residents will be able to attend free weapons permit classes in February, March and April. Certification received from these classes will allow for acquisition of permits to carry which is also a permit to purchase. The current COVID-19 restrictions have resulted in some changes to the class structure and they will now be limited to 20 individuals to allow for social distancing. To register for the class, you must call the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office at 712-792-4393 then select option 1. Since the class is open only to Carroll County residents, a current driver’s license or ID card that includes the address must be presented. Attendees will also be required to pay the permit fee of $50 at their class. Cash and check are the only forms of payment accepted. Applications for the permit can be filled out in advance by following the link below. Scheduled course dates are: 6 p.m. Tuesday, February 16; 8 a.m. Saturday, March 13; and 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 13. Classes will take place in the lower level of the Carroll County Courthouse and attendees are asked to enter through the east door.
