Dozens of cars, trucks and semis were still in ditches throughout the listening area this morning (Thursday) following last night’s wintry conditions. Between two and six inches of snow fell with temperatures dropping into the single digits for much of the region. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office reports more the 30 vehicles, including two semi-tractor trailers, ended up leaving the road at various points in the evening. Authorities there reported several accidents, but no injuries occurred as a result of any of them. In Carroll County, U.S. Highway 30 between Arcadia and Carroll was closed temporarily Wednesday night due to several minor accidents along that stretch of roadway. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office also estimated 30 vehicles went into the ditch due to the harsh driving conditions, while their colleagues in Greene County reported at least 17 stuck vehicles. Similar numbers were seen in the other counties throughout the region.
