The Lake View Police Department will be welcoming a new officer to their team at the beginning of the new year. The city council unanimously approved the hire during their meeting on Monday. Administrator, Scott Peterson, says they have been somewhat short-staffed since Chief, Royce Kemmann, retired earlier this year, and they are excited to welcome a new face to the force.
According to Peterson, they will be able to quickly transition Brown into the officer rotation because of his previous experience in law enforcement. He adds there is the added benefit that Brown will not need to attend the Iowa Law Enforcement academy to obtain his certifications. Hiring officers in smaller communities has been a challenge for many departments throughout the state, but Peterson says they are fortunate to have not experienced that issue.
Half of Lake View’s four-person department is relatively new to the community. Former Aurora, Colo. Police Department Investigator, Brandon Rinnan, took over as the department’s chief at the end of September.
