Canine Passenger Blamed For Saturday Evening Accident In Bagley

A Scranton man says his dog impeded his ability to stay in his lane, resulting in an accident near Bagley on Saturday evening. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on Highway 141 at approximately 5:35 p.m. Forty-three-year-old Dawn Sandra Smith of Urbandale was eastbound on 141 in a 2015 Chrysler Town & Country van. Twenty-year-old Ethan Brett McFarland of Scranton was westbound in a 2016 Nissan Versa at that same time. McFarland told the deputy he had a dog in the vehicle with him and it interfered with his ability to steer straight, which caused him to cross the center line and sideswipe the van. No injuries were reported, but there was an estimated $3,500 in damage to each vehicle. McFarland was cited for failure to yield half of the roadway.
