An Ames man who was arrested in early November for burglary is now facing added drug charges. The Carroll Police Department reports they took 19-year-old Austin Eugene Eslick into custody at approximately 5:35 a.m. Thursday for possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, which was seized and tested during a Nov. 4 arrest. At that time, Eslick and 19-year-old Kaela Schultz of Carroll were each charged with one count of second-degree burglary, a class C felony, and two counts of third-degree burglary, aggravated misdemeanors. The two had allegedly been seen entering a vehicle in the 1000 block of North Adams Street and then fleeing on foot and are believed to have been involved with entering the garage of an occupied home with the intent to steal items and at least eight incidents of thefts from vehicles. Items reported missing included purses, cash and a laptop computer. A search warrant was executed at 249 Kevin Ave. and numerous items reported stolen were located. In addition, the pair has been accused of using a stolen debit card at a Carroll retailer. Both have pled not guilty to the burglary charges and are scheduled for jury trials next year; Eslick on Jan. 25 and Schultz on March 23.
