Gilbert At Carroll High

Gilbert 72

Carroll High 42

Carroll faced the 2nd ranked team in Class 4A and suffered their first loss of the season. The Tigers led early 5-4 but the pressure of the Gilbert defense led to a few turnovers and easy baskets and Gilbert led 24-9 at the end of the 1st quarter. Carroll Head Coach Katie Kock says he liked her teams’ effort and felt they handled the pressure pretty well at times. Gilbert can swarm a team with their athletes.

Carroll best two quarters were the middle two when they scored 13 points in each. They were able to break the pressure and attack the Gilbert defense. Ella Collison was able to get a few good looks and led the team with 14 points. Kennedy Lein added 8 and Kelsie Reicks added 6 points. Carroll held tough in the 3rd after being down by 18 at half they trailed by 20 heading into the 4th quarter.

East Sac At South Central Calhoun

South Central Calhoun 63

East Sac 51

This game was close until early in the 4th quarter when South Central Calhoun was able to wear down the Raiders and edge the lead into double digits. The Titans led by 8 after the 1st quarter but only by 6 at half and by 8 entering the 4th. They opened the 4th on a 10-3 run to make it 61-46. The Titans depth showed up well with three girls in double digits and two girls off the bench nearly in double digits.

Riley Batta, Sayer Steig and Kylee Schleisman spearheaded that early defensive pressure and Brielle Korleski and Schleisman took advantage on the offensive end. The Raiders settled in after getting down by 10 and Maty Quirk heated up helping them go on a 13-0 run to take their first lead at 21-20 and grow it to 23-20. South Central Calhoun answered with renewed intensity on the defensive end and closed the half on a 15-6 run to make it 35-29 at half.

He feels he’s got some kids that will be able to score the ball.

Titans Coach Brady Dicks liked what he saw from his defense and says the team adjusted well when East Sac extended their 2-3 zone in the 2nd quarter. They hadn’t seen that on film but he felt they adjusted to it pretty quickly.
