Kuemper at Joe Fitch Invitational Tournament
The Kuemper Knights traveled to Humboldt for their first individual tournament of the season and came away with good looks from their individual matches. In the 106 pound weight class, Sophomore Riley Parkis represented the Knights with a 3-0 sweep in matches wrestled. He defeated Zander Dugan of Humboldt via fall at 0:54 in the second round, beat Josh Haas of Atlantic via a 10-2 major decision, and wrapped up his day with a 6-1 decision over Atlantic’s Clevi Johnson. Those three victories gave Kuemper 27 team points on the day. His older brother, Junior Shea Parkis, also had an impressive day going 4-0 winning at the 145 pound weight class. Shea won his first two matches via fall at 1:21 and 0:56 and his final two matches in a 6-2 and a much closer 3-2 decision. Those four victories gave Kuemper 26 more points to add to their overall total.
Another impressive look for the Knights came from Junior Cal Wanninger who wrestled at the 220 pound weight class. Wanninger easily won his first two matches winning by fall at 1:41 and 1:05. His third match against Humboldt’s Colten Goodell lasted until the end where Wanninger was named the winner via a 5-2 decision. Wrapping up his day was a tough match against Emmetsburg’s Jordan Anderson. In that match, Wanninger was unable to gain the advantage and was pinned at 5:07 losing the 220 pound championship match. He would go 3-1 on the day and give Kuemper 22 team points.
Overall, the Kuemper Knights ended their day finishing in sixth place with 130 points, finishing ahead of Pocahontas Area (118) and Aplington-Parkersburg Grundy Center (51). Atlantic took home the title of Joe Fitch Tournament champs with 236 points. Keumper will travel to Traynor to wrestle against Griswold, Shenandoah, and Traynor.
