Carroll High opened the season with an impressive win as their defense set the stage from late in the 1st quarter through the early part of the 3rd. Kuemper Catholic won the opening tip and got a bucket on a nice dribble drive from John Mayhall to take the quick 2-0 lead. Carroll tied it and went ahead 4-2 and then were up 7-2. The Knights responded with a 5-0 run to tie the game at 7 but Nick Macke knocked down a couple 3’s to make it 13-7 and Carroll High closed out the quarter on a 13-2 run and led 20-9 heading into the 2nd quarter.

The Tigers clamped down on the Knights offense forcing them to one side of the floor and pushed them to the baseline. That pressure created turnovers and run outs for Carroll High as they extended the lead to 41-21 at half.
The Knights fought in the 1st half as Mayhall had 12 of his team high 15 points in the 1st half and Isaac Evans battled foul trouble but kept battling inside.
The opening four minutes of the 3rd belonged to Carroll High as Tory Feldman, Colby Christensen and Kaleb Booth all had outstanding moments and Nick Macke kept raining in 3’s. The Tigers created a number of turnovers and scored off them to go up 62-36 midway through the 3rd.
Kaleb Booth led all scorers with 20 points to go with 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Nick Macke added 17 points making five 3’s. Colby Christensen added 12 points and 5 assists and Tory Feldman had a dominating performance with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals.
John Mayhall paced Kuemper with 15 points and 4 steals. Isaac Evans added 8 rebounds. Taye Vonnahme and Mitchell Badding each had 7 points.
The Tigers host Gilbert on Friday while Kuemper entertains Denison Schleswig.

The Ar-We-Va Rockets won the battle of Rockets defeating Paton Churdan in the season opener for both teams. Ar-We-Va started the game fast with 12 points from Zach Schimmer as they built a 17-4 lead after one quarter. Their defense pressure continued to give Paton Churdan trouble in the 2nd quarter. Ar-We-Va led 35-11 at half.
Paton Churdan came out in the 2nd half and played better winning the 3rd but it was low scoring at 8-5. Paton Churdan continued to see some growth in the 4th quarter but the hole they dug early was too large to overcome.
Zach Schimmer paced Ar-We-Va with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Will Ragaller added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Cooper Kock also had a good night for the Rockets with 8 points and 13 rebounds.
Connor Brus led Paton Churdan with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Bradyn Smith added 6 points and 7 rebounds. Riley Cullum had 7 rebounds and Forest Thompson finished with 4 steals.
Ar-We-Va heads to Boyer Valley on Friday while Paton Churdan hosts Glidden Ralston.

The Raiders open the season with a good win at home on Tuesday. Raiders were sharp early opening the game with a 10-0 run and leading the game 15-4 with around 2:35 left in the 1st quarter. As expected Woodbury Central made a run and cut it to 20-16 after the 1st quarter. Cam Schroeder and Tyler Schmitt each played well, Schroeder had 11 points and Schmitt 6 in the quarter.
The game remained tight through the rest of the 1st half with the Raiders maintaining a 3-5 point lead. That changed midway through the 3rd quarter. East Sac led 47-42 with 4:00 minutes left and went on a 4-0 run to make it 51-42 with 3:00 left in the quarter and led it 57-47 at the end of the 3rd quarter. That run was the difference as East Sac held around a 10 point lead the rest of the game. They pulled away to lead 70-55 with 2:40 left in the game.
Camden Schroeder was outstanding with 38 points, 8 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 block shots. Tyler Schmitt chipped in with 24 points and 7 rebounds.
The Raiders head to South Central Calhoun on Friday.

The Wildcats dropped their season opener on Tuesday falling at home in a Rolling Valley Conference matchup. It was a nice start for Glidden Ralston as they led 14-13 at the end of the 1st quarter. A tough 2nd quarter was the difference with Glidden Ralston scoring just 6 points while giving up 25. They trailed 38-20 at half.
The Spartans came out sharp again after the half holding Glidden Ralston to 11 points building their lead to 62-31 heading to the final stanza. Glidden Ralston closed the game out well with their highest output scorings 24 points.
Cale Klocke and Carter Scott each finished in double figures with Klocke leading the way with 16 points while Scott added 15 points. Brigham Daniel nearly scored in double figures finishing the game with 9 points. Karter Kennebeck added 7 points and a team high 5 rebounds.
The Wildcats travel to West Central Valley on Thursday.

Wheelers fall to 0-2 with a home loss on Tuesday in their Western Iowa Conference opener. The Wheelers hung tough in the 1st quarter and trailed by just 5 heading into the 2nd stanza. AHSTW is considered one of the top teams in the conference this season and they scored 24 points in the 2nd to build a 15 point lead at halftime. The Wheelers scored 14 points but couldn’t contain the Viking offense.
Audubon scored in double digits in each quarter with the 2nd being their best with 14. They scored 11 in each of the other quarters. The 2nd was also the only quarter that the Vikings scored more than 16. The lead had grown to 18 heading into the 4th quarter.
Ethan Klocke had a team high 19 points with Jackson Deist also in double figures with 11 points. Gavin Smith had double figure rebounds for the 2nd straight night with 10 boards. Deist added 6 rebounds. Joel Klocke and Ethan Klocke each had 3 steals.
Audubon hosts Treynor next Tuesday.

South Central Calhoun traveled to South Hamilton for a non-conference matchup playing back to back to open the season. After shooting the ball well on Monday the Titans struggled from the field hitting 16 of 42 shots or 38% and just 7 of 29 shots from three. The offensive struggles kept them having to try and play from behind. The Titans trailed 17-9 after the 1st quarter and were down 15 at half. They played better in the 2nd half outscoring South Hamilton 29-27.
Joshua Deitrich had a game high 16 points while Brennan Holder added 14 points, a team high 7 rebounds and a team high 4 assists. South Central Calhoun struggled on the glass with just 20 rebounds. Cole Corey nearly scored double figures with 9 points.
The Titans are home Friday to East Sac.

The final score doesn’t indicate how close the game was most of the game. The Wolves trailed 49-40 after three quarters but didn’t score in the 4th. They trailed by 4 at the end of the 1st quarter and were only down 7 at half. IKM-Manning struggled to get shots to fall in the 4th but still played solid on the defensive end giving up just 13 points. Treynor best two scoring quarters were the 1st and 3rd when they scored 19 and 17 respectively.
The Wolves had balanced scoring with Brody Swearingen leading the way with 9 points, Connor Keller and Drew Doyle each had 8 points. Hayden McLaughlin, Kyler Rasmussen and Cooper Irlmeier all had 5 points. Swearingen led the team with 7 rebounds. Kyler Rasmussen and Connor Keller each had 3 assists while Kyler and Drew Doyle had 3 steals.
