Greene County Authorities Respond To Two Accidents Over Holiday Weekend, One Involving Minor Injury Of A Minor

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to two accidents over the weekend, one with reported minor injuries. The first, a two-vehicle accident, occurred on Thursday, Nov. 26 at approximately 1:08 p.m. A deputy responded to U.S. Highway 30 and W Avenue east of Grand Junction. Thirty-three-year-old Nichole Silbaugh of Jefferson was eastbound on 30 in a 2017 GMC Acadia. At the same time, 18-year-old Samuel Lopez of Perry was southbound on W avenue in a 2007 Honda Accord. Lopez failed to stop at the posted sign at the intersection and pulled out in front of the Silbaugh vehicle. No injuries were reported but there was severe damage to both vehicles. Lopez was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and failure to yield the right of way. Greene County Emergency Medical Services and Grand Junction Rescue assisted at the scene. The second two-vehicle accident was reported at 7:58 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28 at U.S. Highway 30 and E Avenue, north of Scranton. A 14-year-old male was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado and pulling another 14-year-old male on a lawn mower. The chain broke and the lawn mower rolled into the ditch. Greene County Emergency Medical Services transported one of the males who sustained minor injuries.
