A Sac County inmate who escaped from custody last Friday has been apprehended at a residence in Walnut. Sac County Sheriff, Ken McClure, reports Pottawattamie County deputies took 25-year-old Shawn Patrick Freier into custody at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Freier was found in an upstairs area of a garage and was arrested without incident. He was transported to the Pottawattamie County jail in Council Bluffs and will be transferred back to Sac County today (Wednesday). Freier and 35-year-old Joseph Lee Sly overpowered a female corrections officer, locking her in the main cell block, before escaping from the Sac County jail in Sac City at about 4:30 p.m. last Friday. Sly was apprehended by an off-duty Lake View Reserve officer in Sac City at approximately 7:28 a.m. Saturday morning. Both men are now charged with escape from custody, assault while participating in a felony and assault on persons in a certain occupation. Sly is currently being held in the Buena Vista County jail. He was originally in holding at Sac City on domestic violence and sexual abuse charges from Calhoun County. Freier was serving a sentence for domestic violence.
