Eugene Nepple of Carroll

Eugene Nepple, 65 of Carroll, died Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at his home near Carroll surrounded by his family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 14, 2020 at St. John Paul II Parish – St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Kevin Richter. Music will be by Jane Heithoff and Kathleen Macke. Lectors will be Becky Archunde and Julie Nepple. Honorary Gift Bearers will be Owen Nepple, Grant Nepple, Elijah Stampfli and Eliana Stampfli. Casket Bearers will be Roger Stephenson, Robby Stephenson, Kelly Meyer, James Meyer, Tim Nepple, Adam Nepple, Joe Nepple, John Nepple, and John McCormick. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. There will be no public visitation on Monday at the church. Those attending the visitation at the funeral home and attending the Funeral Mass are required to wear a face covering.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home for St. Anthony Hospice or St. Anthony Regional Cancer. Eugene Raymond Nepple was born in Carroll, Iowa on July 11, 1955, the son of Alphonse and Rita (Vonnahme) Nepple. Gene grew up on a farm near Manning and at age 12 moved to Carroll where he graduated from Carroll High School in 1974.
On April 30, 1977, Gene was united in marriage to Debra K. Schmitz at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton, Iowa with Fr. Eugene T. Schumacher officiating. Gene and Deb lived in the Lidderdale area, moved to Carroll in 1981 and have been residing at their current home since 1995. Throughout his working career Gene worked in several body shops before going to work for Scranton Manufacturing for 11 years. For the past 33 years he was employed at Pella Corp where he held various positions, most recently as a paint specialist until retiring due to health.
Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, crafting, going junking with his wife, playing cards, and telling jokes. He always looked at the good side of situations and put others before himself. He truly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his 4 grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Deb Nepple of Carroll; his son Mark Nepple and wife Tami, their children Owen and Grant of Mt. Carmel; his daughter, Sheryl Stampfli and husband James and their children Elijah and Eliana of Mt. Horeb, WI; his son Mike Nepple of Lake View; his siblings: Rosie Obman of Carroll, Ruth (Jerry) Wiskus of Lidderdale, Marvin Nepple of Carroll, Alvin (Karen) Nepple of Glidden, Dave (Joan) Nepple of Lohrville, twin sisters, Mary Agnes (Al) Daniel of Carroll, and Mary Ann (Gary) McCormick of Churdan, Madonna (Larry) Meyer of Glidden and Joan Obman of Breda; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Pat Nepple of Sioux City, Janis Nepple of Hastings, NE, Mark Irlbeck of Des Moines, Margene (Rick) Heisterkamp of Carroll, Tom (Dee) Schmitz of Templeton, Sharon (Dick) Sporrer of Dedham and Gail (Marty) Greving of Willey; as well as
many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and many friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse and Rita Nepple; parents-in-law, Walter and Louise Schmitz; his brothers, Charles Nepple and Lloyd Nepple; his sisters: Mary Lou Irlbeck and Anna Marie Nepple and Jean Marie Nepple in infancy; his brothers-in-law, Don Obman and Eugene (Butch) Obman; his sisters-in-law, Rita Nepple and Jane Nepple; and his nephew, Chuck Nepple Jr.
