Permit To Carry Class At End Of September Is Free For Carroll County Residents

Carroll County residents can take part in a free weapons’ class at the end of September, but space will be limited to allow for physical distancing. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is offering this instruction to county residents on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. at the Carroll County Courthouse. Because the class is only being made available to Carroll County residents, a current driver’s license or ID card will need to be presented. The class will be limited to 20 individuals and registration will need to be done by calling the Sheriff’s Office at 792-4393. Although the instruction is free, there is a $50 charge for the permit to carry, which also acts as a permit to purchase, and this will need to be paid at the class. Those attending are asked to enter the courthouse through the east doors. Permit renewals do not require any additional instruction. These must be done within 30 days before or after the permit’s expiration and there is a $25 charge. If it has expired after those 30 days, it will be considered a new permit and the charge will increase to $50. Those renewing their permits can do so at the Sheriff’s Office on the lower level of the courthouse and should bring a valid driver’s license or ID card along with their permit. An application will need to be filled out and a background check will be conducted for both new permits and renewals. A link to apply can be found below. If for some reason an application is denied, the Sheriff will contact the applicant.
