Authorities have determined an Aug. 8 fire at a Storm Lake nightclub was intentionally set. Fire Chief, Mike Jones, announced today (Monday) that that test results combined with other investigative elements led them to the conclusion that the fire that burned the Oasis Night Club was arson. Firefighters were called to the club at approximately 11:30 p.m. on that Saturday night and met with heavy smoke as they entered the structure. Thermal imaging equipment was used to help locate the fire at the stage area in the east end of the building. Samples of the flooring from the stage were removed and taken to the state crime lab for evaluation. Gasoline was found to be present in the samples tested. The Storm Lake Fire Department was assisted in the investigation by the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Storm Lake Police Department. Anyone with information regarding the fire is asked to call the Storm Lake Police Department at 712-732-8010.
