New Guidelines For Fall Sports At CCSD Aimed At Increasing Online Spectators

Since taking over as the Carroll Community School District’s Activities Director, Randy Bissen says he has been encouraging everyone to attend events and support the students. This year, however, he has had to alter that message. Now, he says, if you do not have close ties with the student participating, he is asking that you watch livestreamed events via Tiger Vision. Tomorrow (Friday) night is the opening football game for the Carroll Tigers, who will play Bondurant at home and the rules for spectators will be much different. Bissen says the social distancing aspect will be a bit easier at the Carroll Athletic Stadium than it will be for volleyball matches inside the gyms.

At this time, there are no ticket vouchers for spectators on the home side. Instead, they will be counting attendees and when they hit 50 percent capacity, they will close the bleachers and the remainder will need to spread out along the fence line. Guidelines are in place to ensure that those in the stands maintain the appropriate physical distances.

Masks will not be required, but Bissen says they are strongly recommending that they be used, even though they are outside. There will be no junior high student section. Students through middle school age will need to attend with an adult. There will be a high school section, but they will limit groupings to four or five and those students are being asked to wear masks. Bissen says they will try their best to enforce all of these guidelines, but that isn’t always going to be possible.

The freshman football game will start at 4:15 p.m. and the gates will be open and ticket takers will be in place at about 3:30 p.m. Bissen says the stadium holds 2,200 people on the home side, so to be safe, they will limit bleacher seating to about 800, and he says that should cover the majority. For volleyball games this fall, Bissen says they will be splitting freshman and junior varsity games to separate gymnasiums and coaches will hand out the tickets required for entry to the players the night before the matches. Bissen says they are working with the Kuemper staff and the same guidelines will apply for their home football games, but they may have different requirements for other activities within their buildings. Everyone is encouraged to check out the websites of schools for away games to find out their protocols and to always have a mask with you as it may be required in other districts.
