No one was home and no injuries were reported in what is being classified as a suspicious explosion and fire on Wednesday night in Carroll. Carroll Fire Department Assistant Chief, Bob Shields, says they were called to 1116 N. Clark St. shortly before 9 p.m. after receiving calls about the explosion. Upon arrival, firefighters found the garage fully engulfed in flames that had extended partially into the home. He says the fire was pretty intense for a while, but the team was able to knock it down relatively quickly. Even though the actual fire did limited damage to the house, there was smoke and water damage that will likely result in the residence being deemed a total loss. There was also some heat damage to the siding of a house to the north. The department was on scene for a couple of hours and they were assisted by the Carroll Police Department, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Carroll County Emergency Medical Services. Because the cause of the fire was suspicious, the Iowa Fire Marshal has been notified. According to the Carroll County Assessor’s Office, the home is owned by Melvin J. and Joy C. Booth.
