As work continues on the countywide installation of the emergency communications project, a testing of outdoor weather sirens throughout Carroll County has been scheduled for next week. Carroll Chief of Police, Brad Burke, says even though the tower sites are not yet completed, work on getting the city/county communication center updated is underway.
Burke says the city did set off the weather sirens last Monday morning as a warning to residents to seek shelter from the straight-line winds of the derecho that reached from 74 to 84 miles per hour in this area. During the warmer months, however, these are tested on a weekly basis.
They will continue to monitor weather conditions for Monday and determine as late as that morning whether or not the test will be conducted.
This test will ensure that the sirens are fully operational before there is a complete switch over to the new Iowa Interoperable Communications System (ISICS), anticipated for later this fall.
