The Sac City and Lytton Fire Departments responded to a house fire in Sac City at approximately 5:04 a.m. Wednesday morning. Sac City Fire Chief, Dale Duncan, says the occupant was already out of the two-story home at 1410 Hobbs Street when they arrived.

Duncan says the homeowner is a smoker and they believed a cigarette caught the piece of furniture on fire. The call for help was made from a neighbor’s home and a group of them were trying to control the blaze when firefighters arrived.

The home has suffered extensive damage. Crews were on scene for approximately two hours and they are confident it has been contained. The homeowner continues to monitor for hotspots. The Sac City Police Department and Sac County Emergency Medical Services also responded to the scene.
