Lake View City Council Approves Purchase Of Radar Speed Sign To Address Traffic Concerns On High Street

The Lake View City Council approved a plan at Monday’s meeting aimed at addressing residents’ concerns regarding traffic safety on one of the community’s main thoroughfares. Administrator, Scott Peterson, says they have received numerous complaints about vehicles traveling on High Street.

The Lake View Police Department currently has only two full-time officers on staff so diverting manpower strictly to this area was not a viable option. The council discussed several potential options before settling on a solution that requires fewer manhours and has seen success in other area communities.

Peterson adds they hope the sign will make drivers more aware of how fast they are traveling through town and encourage them to slow down. Permanent radar signs generally cost between $2,500 and $3,000 to purchase and install, and city staff are working with the Iowa Department of Transportation on acquiring the sign. Peterson says it is unclear how long it will take to have the sign installed, but city officials hope to have it up and operational as soon as possible.
