The Carroll Police Department has issued an alert for area businesses, warning them of credit card fraud attempts in the area. Detective Alex Klever says there are people attempting to pay with credit card numbers over the phone, but they do not physically have the card. It is generally either just a photo of the card or the numbers in a text message. Klever says businesses who are taking credit card numbers by phone should match the credit card to a valid ID in order to help prevent becoming a victim of fraud.
