Crawford County Fair Board Aims For As Close To Normal As Possible Amid Pandemic

The 2020 Crawford County Fair is set to get underway this week, and the event’s schedule has been relatively unaffected by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Fair Board member, Janice Henningsen, says they have implemented a few changes to combat the spread of the coronavirus. All fairgoers are strongly encouraged to maintain the recommended six-feet physical distancing and to wear masks when this is not possible. Additional hand washing and sanitizing stations are spread out through the fairgrounds in Denison. Henningsen says the most noticeable difference this year is in the animal show schedules.

Each exhibitor has been supplied gloves, masks and a bottle of hand sanitizer to use and wear the day they are scheduled to show. Most of the fairs in the area have opted to cancel the food and entertainment that often comes with their annual summer celebrations. Henningsen says the board decided after lengthy discussions to leave the popular grandstand events and food vendors on the schedule.

Scott Amusements will be set up from Thursday through Sunday. Thursday night will be a wristband night that will let people ride all the attractions from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for only $15. As of Monday afternoon, Crawford County stands at 689 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The county saw a sharp spike in cases during May but is averaging just over nine new cases per day over the last seven days. While coronavirus concerns still loom, Henningsen says the fair is a summertime tradition that many still wanted held.
