Loring Hospital Reports Scam Circulating In Area That Appears To Originate From Hospital’s Phone Number

Loring Hospital in Sac City is reporting they have been made aware of scam calls circulating in the community that appear to be coming from the hospital’s own phone number. Several residents have reported receiving a call that shows up falsely on caller ID as Loring Hospital’s phone number, 712-662-7105. Scammers use a technique, known as spoofing, that disguises the true origin of the call to trick people into answering. According to the hospital, the caller then attempts to sell an alert system for approximately $400 to the resident. Administrators says this is 100 percent a scam and Loring Hospital would never sell products or services over the phone. If such a call is received, residents are advised they should hang up immediately. When in doubt about the authenticity of a caller, authorities recommend never giving out any personal information and to be cautious of anybody requesting immediate payment, especially if it is through unusual methods such as gift cards or pre-paid debit cards.
