The Lake City Council has put their support behind the proposed construction of a new dog park near historic Central School, but it is still unclear if the project will move forward. Administrator, Eric Wood, says the council unanimously approved a resolution at Monday’s meeting formally backing Central School Preservation’s plans.
The first hurdle Central School Preservation needed to clear was how the park would be insured if constructed. Board President, Darcy Maulsby, requested in June city officials check with their provider to determine if the park would be covered on the city’s policy. Wood says they now have an answer.
Central School Preservation originally planned to begin designing and fundraising for the project once they had liability coverage. However, Wood says there has been some pushback from residents who live nearby the proposed site.
The Central School Preservation Board of Directors has decided to delay moving forward with the project at this time to explore the residents’ concerns. They hope to make a formal decision on whether they will continue to pursue the dog park by the end of the summer.
