A Jefferson man remains in custody Monday morning following a domestic abuse report and subsequent drug charges. The Jefferson Police Department was notified that a couple had been seen fighting in a yard in the 500 block of West State Street at approximately 6:25 a.m. Friday. The resident reported the two departed in a vehicle and left a bike and other personal property in his yard. The responding officer located an ID in the belongings, which led him to the 200 block of West Russell Street. He made contact with the couple and the female advised him she had been assaulted with brass knuckles and a knife had been brandished during the assault. The brass knuckles were located and the female transported to the Greene County Medical Center for treatment of multiple injuries. Thirty-five-year-old Justin Michael Cosnotti was arrested and charged with third-offense or subsequent domestic abuse assault, a class D felony, willful injury causing serious injury, a class C felony, and first-degree harassment and child endangerment, aggravated misdemeanors. Following Cosnotti’s arrest, a search warrant was requested. It was granted and executed a short time later that day. During the search, officers seized marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin, prescription medications and a large amount of drug paraphernalia. The knife reportedly used in the assault was also located. Additional charges were levied against Cosnotti and include two counts of possession of controlled substances, one for heroin and one for methamphetamine, and another charge of false imprisonment, all serious misdemeanors.
