Two Sac County law enforcement officers are to receive commendations for their actions earlier this month that saved the life of an inmate at the Sac County jail. Sac City Mayor, Scott Bundt, says Stacey Carlson, a veteran of the Sac City Police Department, and Katie Stange, a deputy with the Sac County Sheriff’s Office responded to the facility at approximately 11:57 p.m. on June 9.
Once the cable had been removed, Carlson and Stange provided medical aid to the prisoner until paramedics arrived on scene. Following the death of George Floyd during a May 25 arrest in Minneapolis, protests against police use of force have occurred throughout the nation. Bundt says situations like the June 9 incident at the jail are for more indicative of law enforcement’s mission to protect and serve.
Bundt adds Carlson has been with the Sac City Police Department for as long as he can remember, and his actions and service reflect the entire force’s values. Stange is a more recent addition the Sac County Sheriff’s Office, becoming a deputy in early 2018. A resolution formally commending the officers for their actions is on the agenda for the Sac City Council meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) night.
