The Lake City Betterment Association has announced they will be condensing their Western Days celebration into a single day during the last weekend in June. The Top Rail Saddle Club annual rodeo, which Western Days is centered around, was canceled due to concerns regarding COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, they will be hosting a smaller thank you event for the rodeo’s many supporters over the years. Betterment Director, Mackenzie Gorden, says they will be combining some of the most popular events from each day of the regular celebration into a single day.
Gorden says this was an extremely difficult decision for their board members. They were contacted by many people wanting them to entirely cancel Western Days. She says they heard from just as many people hoping the celebration would still be held.
Participants are strongly encouraged to practice physical distancing. Individuals showing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, cough, difficulty breathing or malaise are asked to avoid the festivities. Gorden says they are closely monitoring the situation and will make changes to the schedule as necessary. The full 61st annual Western Days event schedule can be found included below.
