The City of Carroll will be re-opening some of their buildings beginning next week and they are working hard to develop summer activities through the Rec Center. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says City Hall and the Carroll Police Department lobby will be opened to the public during regular hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, starting Monday, June 1. There will be some special measures taken and they are asking for considerations from the public.

One of the things gleaned from restrictions that went into effect in March is that many of the services offered by the city can be handled without an in-person visit.

Physical distancing requirements still apply, and for this reason city council meetings will not be opened up to in-person attendance. Pogge-Weaver says they will remain in the digital format throughout June at least. Parks and Rec Director, Jack Wardell, has some great news for residents as they are working to coordinate more summer activities. First and foremost, however, they want everyone to take a few minutes and fill out a survey so they can determine their best course of action.

If there is enough interest, Wardell says they will open registration right away and get shirts ordered with the hope of beginning the season right after July 4. One of the questions on the survey will also be about whether four- or six-week seasons are preferred. Pogge-Weaver stresses the importance of this survey in determining whether or not the season happens as their initial spring registration for tee-ball, baseball and softball yielded enough participants for only one full team across the seven age groups. Wardell says they are also looking to bring back tennis, volleyball and golf instruction by the end of the month, structuring these so they don’t overlap and people can participate in as many as they choose. Plans are in the works for a session or two of swim lessons and summer swim team, with limited swimmers at in-person meets or moving to virtual competitions. Other recreation areas will be opening on Monday, June 1 as well.

Locker rooms at the Rec Center reopen on Monday morning at 6:30 a.m., but they will close daily between about 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. for deep cleaning. The Carroll Aquatic Center is open for adult lap swimming from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and Rec Center members can enter at no additional cost. Those who are not members will need to buy a punch card or pay daily entry fees. This is access for those 16 and older. Children may accompany a parent, but there is no recreational swimming allowed until restrictions change. The indoor pool at the Rec Center will be closed during that time. City Hall and the Police Department Lobby are reopening on Monday, June 1
City Hall and the Police Department Lobby are reopening on Monday, June 1 to the public during our normal office hours of Monday through Friday 8 to 5. The City has put in a number of safety measures and implemented enhanced cleaning for the public and City Staff.
While offices are reopened, we have found most services can be handled without a visit. The public are encouraged to continue access City services whenever possible remotely via phone, electronic, and mail. Visit cityofcarroll.com/contact-us for up to date contact information for all City Offices.
It should be noted that City Council meetings will continue to be held as virtual on-line meetings due to the required social distancing requirements that are in place.
Parks and Recreation Updates
With a relaxing and reopening of more activities by Gov. Kim Reynolds, on Monday, June 1:
- Playgrounds and the skate park will reopen
- Park shelter rentals will resume; however, shelters will be limited to 50% of its normal operating capacity and users are to continue to observe at least six feet of physical distance between each group or individuals attending.
- Locker rooms at the Rec Center will reopen
- Lap swimming will open at the Outdoor Aquatic Center from 11:00 to 1:00.
- When Gov. Reynolds relaxes additional rules, the City will look to permit open swimming.
Summer Youth Activities
- The City attempted to run a baseball/softball/Tball season earlier this year but we simply did not have sufficient signups for a season.
- Now that more activities are being permitted, the City is looking to see if there is interest in youth activities this summer.
- We currently have a survey up on the Carroll Recreation Center and City of Carroll Facebook pages. It will be available now through Sunday, May 31st.
- Specifically, the survey seeks to see if there is interest in the following activities this summer:
- Summer Swim Team – June 15 – July 17
- Baseball/Softball/Tball starting July 5th.
- Volleyball, Tennis, Golf & Soccer Summer Camps
- Swim Lessons
