Lake City officials announced Tuesday they are beginning their semi-annual hydrant flushing procedures later this week. Starting Thursday, April 16, crews will release water from hydrants to dislodge rust and mineral deposits from the water mains. Currently, their plans are to begin with the four-inch lines. Once finished, they will move on to the six-inch pipes and finish with the eight-inch lines. Residents are advised slight discoloration in the water is possible during this time. The water is safe to consume; however, officials recommend people avoid doing laundry that day if they notice rust- or tea-colored water. Officials thank residents for their patience and understanding while these necessary measures are conducted. Questions can be directed to Lake City Hall at 712-464-3111.
