For weeks, the coronavirus pandemic has been causing disruptions for businesses and people throughout the country, but it also poses some serious issues for at least one local volunteer fire department. Lake City Fired Department Treasurer, Eric Wood, says they have been forced to postpone their annual pancake feed to the fall due to COVID-19.
The pancake feed generally draws between 800 and 1,000 people on an annual basis, and Wood says being forced to postpone it is definitely a disappointment. What is more concerning, however, is the impact it will have on the department’s budget.
While they still plan to hold the pancake feed later this year, it still leaves a six-month gap in their usual funding. Wood says the department will be accepting donations in the meantime to help cover the shortfall. If interested in supporting the department, people can drop donations off at city hall, which is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
