Richard Wright of Carroll

Richard Bernard Wright, age 86, of Carroll passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at Accura Healthcare in Carroll surrounded by his family.

A private family funeral service will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll on Friday, April 10, 2020.  The public is invited to a funeral procession from the funeral home to the Carroll City Cemetery at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, but due to Covid -19 restrictions, are asked to remain in their vehicles at the cemetery.  Military honors will be conducted by the Carroll American Legion.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home c/o of the Richard Wright Family – 705 N. Carroll St.  Carroll, Iowa  51401.

Richard was born on May 14, 1933 on his family’s farm near Breda, IA, and was the son of Clarence and Florence (Pille) Wright.  He grew up on the farm and attended Lake City High School.  Richard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served three years stationed in Hawaii.  Following his military service he returned to the Carroll area and worked for Juergens Produce and Feed for 34 years.  He was married to Joyce Potthoff on June 10, 1961 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur by Fr. Lawrence Greteman.  The couple made their home in Carroll where they raised their three children.  Richard was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  Richard enjoyed playing cards, word search puzzles and his grandchildren.

Richard is survived by his wife Joyce of 58 years; two daughters: Julie Helgerson (Lloyd) of Carroll and Rhonda Worley (Brian) of Carroll; a son Scott Wright (Sherry) of Milford; ten grandchildren: two great-grandchild; his in-laws: Arlene Rupiper of Carroll, Lois Hinners of Carroll, Betty Potthoff of Manning, Lila Potthoff of Halbur, Robert Rutten of Omaha, and Danny Rowedder of Halbur; and several nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Florence and Clarence Wright; his mother and father-in-law Henry and Clementine Potthoff; his twin brother Robert Wright; his brother Don Wright; and his sister Mary Ann Rutten.
